Why A House Party?
This is an easy, fun way to get together with people to support action. Because people are with others they trust, they will be more open to hearing your message and willing to take action.
1. Initial Steps
- Determine the goal for your event: it could be to introduce an issue or a candidate, it could be to take action or raise money.
- Set the date and time for the house party
- Determine the location (could be your home or a coffee shop or even a room at the library)
- Decide if you want a co-host. (this will make the job easier and expand the network of people to invitee)
- Create your invitation list and send out invitations
2. Party Prep
- Get the materials for your event together (will you have a table with handouts, do you need items for people to take action like postcards?)
- Determine what food and drink you will provide.
- Put together a signup sheet or other way to be able to follow up with attendees
- Confirm your guests by calling, texting or emailing them to remind them about the event.
3. Holding the Party
- Greet everyone and outline the event for them.
- Have name tags for them to fill out
- Start the agenda or action.
- Take Photos!
4. Follow-up
- Thank everyone for coming.
- Give them any additional materials and info regarding any upcoming events.
- See if anyone wants to host the next get together. Regular gatherings are a great way to grow community
