Volunteer to be a Poll Obeserver in WI

commentComments

Starting with the latter: WisDems is looking for election day poll observers for this November. Observers will be stationed throughout the state, and will play an invaluable role in ensuring election integrity and getting voters the support they need. If you’re already sold, you can sign up here (no experience needed, training will be provided!)

What is a Poll Observer?

Poll observers are the eyes and ears for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s Voter Protection Team inside polling locations across the state, and are the last line of defense against instances of voter suppression. You will be assigned to a polling place by our team, and will be the first to report any issues that arise (like long lines, machine problems, or voters being turned away unnecessarily), and will act as a resource for voters who may need assistance.

Campaign State: Wisconsin

1. Logistics of Poll Observing

  • This is the official form to sign up as a poll observer—once you fill this out, you’ve committed to being a poll observer, and we will assign you a polling place on Election Day!
  • We have 3 shift options for Election Day: All-Day (6:30am-8:30pm CT – this is our greatest need, please select an all-day shift if you are able to), morning (6:30am-1:30pm CT), or afternoon (1:30pm-8:30pm CT).

  • You do NOT need any previous experience or legal background to be a poll observer, and you do not need to be a Wisconsin resident!

  • Poll Observer Training will be required. As election law in Wisconsin changes, it is important that we are able to get returning poll observers up to speed on changes to the law and train all of our new volunteers!

  • Poll observers must have access to a smartphone on Election Day and have familiarity with using it.

2. Poll Observer Trainings

Poll Observer Training: Training is held on Zoom and lasts 90 minutes.

  • There are multiple training options held between October 15th and October 22nd, and you only need to attend once.

  • This training will cover rules of poll observing, election law and voting procedures. We will also have a separate technology training that is required for new observers.

Being a poll observer is a big commitment, and our staff will be there to support you through the whole process! Please only fill out this official signup form if you are ready to commit to being a poll observer on November 5th. Once you fill out this form, our team is counting on you to be there helping us protect voters. Save the date for Tuesday, November 5th on your calendar now!
