Pat Ryan

U.S. Representative Pat Ryan (NY-18) says he has been shaped by his years as a West Point cadet, living by their motto: “Duty, Honor, Country.” He ran for Congress in 2022 “to bring that ethos to Washington, where it’s desperately needed.”

A fifth-generation Hudson Valley native, Ryan attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a degree in international relations. He went on to serve two combat tours in Iraq, earning a Bronze Star and the Combat Action Badge.

After leaving the military, Ryan attended Georgetown University, where he earned a master's degree in security studies. He later worked as a senior vice president at Dataminr, a tech company that uses artificial intelligence to detect and respond to emerging risks.

  • In 2018, Ryan ran for Ulster County Executive. In this post, Ryan focused on issues like expanding access to mental health services, investing in green infrastructure, and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Ryan's first campaign for Congress came in a special election to fill the seat vacated by Antonio Delgado. As a Democrat and member of the Working Families Party, Ryan emphasized his military service, his background in technology, and his commitment to issues like national security, infrastructure investment, and supporting veterans.
  • In Congress, Ryan has continued to prioritize national security and foreign policy. As a member of the House Committee on Armed Services, he has advocated for policies to support service members and their families, invest in emerging technologies, and strengthen America's alliances and partnerships abroad.
  • As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, Ryan has also been a strong advocate for entrepreneurs and small business owners. He has pushed for policies to expand access to capital, simplify regulations, and support innovation and job creation.
