Denise Powell is the 2026 Democratic nominee for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District — the Omaha-based "blue dot" seat that has delivered an Electoral College vote to Democratic presidential candidates in 2008, 2020, and 2024. A mom, small business owner, former corporate executive, and lifelong community advocate, Powell made history as the first Latina to file for federal office in Nebraska. She won a competitive Democratic primary in May 2026, defeating a crowded field with a grassroots campaign backed by EMILY's List, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus's BOLD PAC, and Elect Democratic Women.

The daughter of Cuban and Chilean immigrants, Powell grew up understanding the promise of the American Dream firsthand. After building a successful career in corporate America, she left the private sector following the 2016 election to fight for her community. She co-founded Women Who Run Nebraska, a political action committee that has helped hundreds of Nebraskans — particularly women — run for local office, and she served for six years on the board of Nebraska's largest immigration legal support agency. She has spent over a decade on the front lines defending public schools, reproductive rights, and the working families of the Omaha area.

Powell is running to be the independent voice Nebraska's 2nd District deserves — one who will stand up to Donald Trump's attacks on working families, defend the Good Life for every Nebraskan, and finally flip this critical seat for Democrats in November 2026.

Powell has fought for, and in Congress will continue to fight for:

• Lowering costs for Nebraska families by stopping Trump's illegal tariffs, expanding clean energy, and building more affordable housing
• Protecting and expanding access to affordable health care, including capping insulin at $35/month and creating a Medicare-like public option
• Defending reproductive freedom — including restoring Roe v. Wade, protecting contraception rights, and expanding access to IVF
• Protecting Social Security and Medicare so every Nebraskan can retire with dignity
• Investing in public education from early childhood through higher education, including expanding affordable childcare and restoring funding to the University of Nebraska
• Supporting Nebraska farmers with a long-term Farm Bill, fair trade policies, and expanded access to capital for family farms
• Strengthening community safety through fully funded police departments, universal background checks, and the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act
• Cleaning up government by banning Congressional stock trading, enacting term limits, and overturning Citizens United
• Rebuilding America's alliances and restoring U.S. leadership on the world stage
• Creating a fair path to citizenship for long-term immigrants and Dreamers while securing the border through smart, humane policy

Powell is the only candidate in this race who has never taken a paycheck from a political office — she's a working mom and small business owner who has been fighting for Nebraska families for over a decade. In Congress, she will put working people first, not special interests.
