Tom Suozzi

Tom Suozzi is the Democratic incumbent representing New York's 3rd Congressional District, covering the North Shore of Nassau County and parts of Queens and Suffolk County. He won the 2026 Democratic primary with more than 80% of the vote and is seeking another term after returning to Congress in a February 2024 special election, following the expulsion of former Republican Rep. George Santos, and winning a full term that November. Suozzi has built a reputation as a bipartisan-minded Democrat, and in 2026 he helped launch "Promise to America," an initiative among centrist House Democrats emphasizing capitalism and pragmatic governance.

Trained as an attorney and certified public accountant, Suozzi earned a B.S. from Boston College in 1984 and a J.D. from Fordham University in 1989. Public service runs in his family; his father, uncle, and cousin all previously served as mayor of Glen Cove. Suozzi himself served four terms as Mayor of Glen Cove from 1994 to 2001, focusing on environmental cleanup of contaminated industrial sites, before being elected Nassau County Executive, a role he held from 2002 to 2009.

Suozzi represented NY-03 in Congress from 2017 to 2023, then returned to the seat in a February 2024 special election and was re-elected to a full term that November. He has served as a leader of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, including a term as its chair, and has focused on restoring the full SALT deduction for Long Island families, securing bipartisan border security reforms, and protecting the region's air and water, including Long Island Sound. His willingness to work across party lines has drawn endorsements not only from Democrats but from Nassau County and Glen Cove police unions, an unusual step for law enforcement groups that don't typically back Democratic candidates.
