Florida’s 23rd Congressional District is in the Greater Miami area, including portions of Broward and southern Palm Beach counties. It has one of the highest concentrations of Jewish Americans (14% of the electorate) and is the wealthiest district in the state.
U.S. Representative Jared Moskowitz was elected in 2022 to serve FL-23 and previously served in state House of Representatives from 2012 to 2019. Democrats are focusing on Moskowitz’ race since the district is Lean D, And Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state legislature are pushing Congressional redistricting. In 2021, Florida successfully redrew lines to split up a North Florida district held by a Black Democrat.
- Born in Coral Springs, Florida, Moskowitz graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of the 2018 mass shooting that killed 17 and injured 18 more. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from George Washington University and a law degree from Nova Southeastern University.
- During his first term, Moskowitz work included initiatives to address gun violence, protecting women’s reproductive freedom, and defending democracy.
- Moskowitz won re-election in 2024 by 4.8 points. At that time, the district was rated Solid D, while now it is Lean D.
- Five Republicans are running in the FL-23 primary. Only one has raised considerable cash – Raven Harrison, an ardent Trump supporter who bills herself as “America’s Mom” who has never held elective office.
- In special elections this past April, Republicans won two MAGA districts, FL-01 and and
- FL-06, but the candidates came in far behind Trump’s victories in those districts just two years before.
