Blair Reeves, founder and executive director of Carolina Forward, https://carolinaforward.org/, the state’s leading Democratic communications organization, will talk about how Democrats can win in NC in 2022 and build for the future. He’ll be joined by Jillian Johnson, Durham City Councillor and NC representative for the Movement Voter Project.

North Carolina has one of the three best chances in the U.S. to pick up a U.S. Senate seat for Democrats. Former North Carolina Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, a three-times proven statewide vote-getter, will face off against Trumpster Republican Congressman Ted Budd for an open, currently Republican-held seat. Democrats can also pick up a new U.S. House seat, the 13th district, thanks to court-ordered redistricting, and perhaps one or two others.

In addition, North Carolina is now in the absolute center of the fight to preserve reproductive rights. It is now the Southernmost state East of the Mississippi with full access. But the Republican-dominated North Carolina legislature wants to roll that back and make abortion illegal in NC. Protecting our rights? Democratic Governor Roy Cooper has and will continue to veto far-right Republican legislation, but if Democrats lose two seats in the NC State Senate and three seats in the NC State House, the Republican majority will be able to override Governor Cooper’s veto. Therefore, supporting key NC House and Senate candidates in swing districts is critical for North Carolina to continue to be a haven in the South for reproductive rights.
