Swing Left East Bay and Common Power (https://commonpower.org) are organizing volunteers to travel to the Tucson area (Arizona’s 6th Congressional District) to canvas to get out the vote for the presidential, senatorial and congressional elections and the ballot measure to enshrine women’s reproductive rights in the Arizona constitution. Arizona will be a battleground state for the presidential election and control of the Senate. So if you want to start working directly on making sure Donald Trump is defeated and we keep control of the Senate and take control of the House, while also making sure that women in Arizona don’t have to travel to California for their reproductive care, this is your chance.
We will be working to coordinate travel and lodging to keep down costs. That will work best if people sign up early. I will be in touch after you sign up.
If you haven’t done canvassing before, your assumptions about what’s involved (and why you might not like it) are probably wrong. You will be only knocking the doors of people believed to be our voters, so you are VERY unlikely to meet any Republicans. People will be happy and excited to see you and grateful for the work you’re doing. I am an introvert and I have to psych myself up every time for that reason, but I’ve knocked well over ten thousand doors across the country over years, I’ve had fun almost every time, and I could literally count on my fingers the unpleasant experiences I’ve had. So you will have fun while you make a difference! I promise.
