Josh Gottheimer represents New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District. First elected in 2016, he won reelection in 2020 with 53.2% of the vote. So far, two Republicans have filed to challenge Gottheimer in the 2022 election. Born and raised in New Jersey, Gottheimer served as a congressional page at the age of 16 to Representative Frank Lautenberg. Gottheimer is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University School of Law. Gottheimer worked as a speech writer for then-President Bill Clinton and later served as counsel for the Federal Communications Commission and as a corporate strategist for Microsoft. In Congress, Gottheimer worked to pass an amendment to accelerate the hiring of post-9/11 veterans. He is currently a member of the Committee on Financial Services and the Committee on Homeland Security where is a member of the subcommittees on Intelligence and Counterterrorism and Transportation and Maritime Security. In September, Gottheimer's proposal to combat foreign financing of terrorist cells, address foreign terrorist organizations’ use of social media platforms was passed as part of the Congress' National Defense Authorization Act.
