Background

U.S. Representative Don Davis, D, brings a deep commitment to public service to his role in the House. David was elected to represent North Carolina’s 1st congressional district in 2022. A pastor and former state legislature, Davis is known for his passion for social justice.

Born and raised in Snow Hill, NC, Davis graduated in 1994 from the U.S. Air Force Academy and became a commissioned officer in the Air Force, where he actively served in uniform for eight years. A First Lieutenant, Davis coordinated Air Force One and CODEL operations at Andrews Air Force Base and supported families of military members as a mortuary officer.

Davis also earned a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University, a master’s degree in sociology with a concentration in regional development, and a doctoral degree in education from East Carolina University. Prior to entering politics, he was an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies at East Carolina University, teaching national security affairs and leadership courses.

On the Issues

In the state legislature, Davis championed education, healthcare, and rural development, playing a key role in securing funding for historically Black colleges and universities.

In 2022, he successfully ran for the open seat in North Carolina's 1st district. In Congress, Davis has continued to prioritize education and healthcare and serves on the House Committee on Education and Labor and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. He advocates for policies to support public schools, make higher education more affordable, and expand access to quality, affordable healthcare.

As a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Davis has also been a vocal advocate for racial justice and civil rights.
