Amish Shah

Dr. Amish Shah, MD, MPH, is a dedicated emergency room physician and experienced legislator now running for Congress in Arizona’s 1st District. Born to Indian-American parents, Dr. Shah has spent his life serving others, both in medicine and in public office. Raised in Arizona, he pursued his medical education and became board certified in emergency medicine. For the past seven years, he has provided care to patients all across Arizona, often piloting his own plane to reach underserved communities.

Before announcing his bid for Congress, Dr. Shah served five years in the Arizona House of Representatives, where he forged bipartisan relationships to pass more bills than any other Arizona Democrat in a decade. His legislative efforts have focused on defending women’s rights, expanding access to healthcare, and improving education for Arizona’s children. Dr. Shah’s commitment to his community is reflected in his track record of knocking on over 22,000 doors, listening to voters from all political backgrounds, and resoundingly winning three consecutive elections.

Dr. Shah is deeply committed to ensuring that every American has access to comprehensive, high-quality healthcare. As an ER physician, he has seen firsthand the devastating impact that high healthcare costs and inadequate access to care can have on individuals and families. Dr. Shah is determined to lower healthcare costs, stand up to Big Pharma, and end the price gouging of essential medications like insulin. He believes that politicians should stay out of personal medical decisions and is a staunch defender of women’s reproductive rights.

Dr. Shah is also focused on protecting the integrity of the electoral process. He has consistently voted against bills that would create obstacles to voting and is committed to defending democracy against false claims and gerrymandering. Dr. Shah also recognizes the critical importance of education in maintaining a thriving democracy and a robust economy. He believes that Arizona’s teachers and students deserve better funding and resources, and he is determined to secure the necessary revenue to support the state’s education system.
