Sharice Davids

Davids has centered her work in office on putting Kansans first, fighting to limit the influence of special interests and make health care more affordable and accessible to everyone.

KS-03 is a highly educated, majority suburban district, the exact kind of seat that has trended blue over time. It has consistently been won by Democrats in past cycles. The district became slightly more competitive in redistricting (R+1) and is now rated a toss-up.

U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids has a strong, bipartisan record of delivering results for her community.  She worked with members of both parties to pass a landmark infrastructure investment that will repair roads and bridges across Kansas while creating thousands of good-paying jobs at home. She has been a leader in the fight to lower prescription drug costs.

Her opponent, however, was the former campaign manager and longtime advisor to disgraced former governor Sam Brownback, Amanda Adkins, who has the endorsement of Ted Cruz, spent most of her career quarterbacking the Brownback agenda, working to pass his devastating tax experiment and ban abortion without exceptions.

Rep. Sharice Davids was raised by a single mom who spent more than 20 years serving in the US Army. A proud graduate of Leavenworth High School, Davids was the first person in her family to attend college. She worked her way from Johnson County Community College to Cornell Law School, juggling multiple jobs to put herself through school.

Davids went on to work in economic and community development on Native American reservations, helping tribes to create programs and initiatives for growth. This work inspired her to apply for the prestigious White House Fellowship program, where she served under President Barack Obama and continued to create economic opportunities for others.

In 2018, Davids was elected to represent Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District, becoming one of the first two Native American women ever to serve in Congress. She has spent her first terms in office working tirelessly to tackle the issues most important to Kansas familie – strengthening our public schools, lowering the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, and making sure the government is working for the people, not special interests.

Davids is a strong supporter of a woman’s right to make her own reproductive decisions. She recently said, “For 50 years, we’ve been protected from the most extreme attempts to control people’s decisions about their bodies, but that protection is now gone” She campaigned vigorously for the “no” vote in Kansas and voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act in Congress.

As a gun owner herself, Rep. Davids is a strong believer in the Second Amendment.  However, in Congress, she has frequently co-sponsored legislation to end America’s epidemic of gun violence, including universal background checks and red flag laws.

Rep. Davids has said “Climate change is real, and that change is having real impacts on our economy, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. We can fight climate change in a way that cuts pollution AND grows our economy. That’s exactly what I’m pushing for.”  In Congress, she voted for the initial Build Back Better Plan and supported its successor – the Anti-Inflation Act.
