Peter DeFazio for OR 04 House District

Holding OR 4 House seat held by Peter DeFazio

Peter DeFazio was first elected in 1986 to represent Oregon’s 4th Congressional District. DeFazio was a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and supports the Working Families Party. He was reelected in 2020 with 51.5% of the vote, a decline from the 56% he received in 2018. To date, two Republican challengers have filed for the 2022 race. Born in Massachusetts, DeFazio is a graduate of Tufts University. He served in the Air Force reserves from 1967 to 1971, and in 977, he earned his master’s degree from the University of Oregon. Prior to becoming a member of Congress, he was an aide to U.S. Representative Jim Weaver. When Weaver retired, De Fazio won the open seat. He has long supported federal student aid programs and currently serves as chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
