Tom O’Halleran represents Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, having been first elected in 2016, with 50.7% of the votes against Republican challenger Paul Babeau at 43.4%. He was re-elected in 2018 with 53.8% of the vote and in 2020 with 51.6% of the vote. Prior to his election to Congress, O’Halleran served as a Republican state senator. In 2014, he left the Republican Party over a range of domestic policies, including education, child welfare, and renewable energy. Born and raised in Chicago, O’Halleran served with the Chicago Police Department from 1966 to 1975. After leaving the department, he began his own trading business with a focus on U.S. Treasury notes. O’Halleran serves on the Committees on Agriculture and the Committee on Energy and Commerce. In Congress, he has sponsored a number of bills in support of Native American issues, including H.R. 5541, the Tribal Powers Act, and H.R. 5432, Nursing Home Care of Native American Veterans Act.
