Troy Jackson is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, selected by state party delegates at a special convention in Bangor after primary winner Graham Platner withdrew from the race. Jackson, the former President of the Maine Senate, won 566 of 571 delegate votes to secure the nomination and will face longtime Republican incumbent Susan Collins in a contest that national forecasters rate a toss-up.

Born in Fort Kent and raised in Aroostook County, Jackson is a fifth-generation logger whose mother was 16 when he was born. He began logging himself as a teenager, working 80-hour weeks running equipment and driving trucks, and first became politically active helping organize a 1998 protest in which loggers blocked the Canadian border over wage cuts by out-of-state landowners. That experience convinced him that working people needed a voice in the legislature, and he was elected to the Maine House in 2002, then the Maine Senate in 2008, eventually serving as Senate President from 2018 to 2024 — the longest tenure in that role in decades.

In the legislature, Jackson helped lower prescription drug prices, passed universal school meals, protected union jobs, expanded rural healthcare, delivered property tax relief, and championed some of the country's strongest reproductive health protections. He earned an associate's degree from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2000 and lives in Allagash with his partner, Lana, and their two grown sons. His campaign says it will not accept corporate PAC or billionaire money.
