MONDAY PHONE BANK CIRCLE

Alaska is a real Senate seat pickup opportunity. And, with AK's small population, your donations, calls, texts, and postcards have an outsized impact.
Early Voting Begins: Mon, Oct 19
Democrat Mary Peltola beat U.S. Senate Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan in Alaska’s ranked-choice non-partisan primary. The field also included a second Republican candidate and a member of the Green Party. The top four primary vote-getters will advance to the November general election. Peltola won 48.1% of the vote compared with Sullivan's 42.7%. Peltola first won in a special election as the At-Large U.S. Representative in June 2022 and won the November election that year. The first Alaska Native and first Democrat in 49 years to represent the state in the U.S. House, she lost in the 2024 election.
In Alaska’s At-Large congressional district, Democrats have been hoping to flip the seat that Peltola lost by 2 points to Republican Rep. Nick Begich III, but Begich was top vote-getter in the primary, with 46.1% to Unaffiliated candidate Bill Hill's 30.9%. Matthew Schultz, the only Democrat has raised any money for his campaign, garnered only 8% of the vote.
• Peltola’s election in 2022 stunned the political world; she beat former Gov. Sarah Palin in a traditionally Republican state. But in 2024, she lost the seat.
• Cook Political Report rated the Alaska Senate race Solid Republican until Peltola entered the race. It is now rated Lean Republican, a significant shift.
• Before being elected to the Senate, Republican incumbent Daniel S. Sullivan served in the Bush administration, and former Gov. Sarah Palin appointed him state attorney general.
• Republican Senate candidate Dustin Darden, who is also running for election to the Anchorage School District School Board, ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for the Alaska House of Representatives in 2024.
• Striking a balance between energy production, the local economy, and the protection of open land is of prime concern in Alaska. Other issues include a housing crisis, rising prices, healthcare access, and the impact of federal policy on local economies.
• A ballot question to eliminate ranked-choice voting failed by less than 1 percent in 2024, but the question is again on the ballot.
